The IBM ThinkPad series comes with a dizzying array of choices combined with innovative design, top performance and loads of features.
The ThinkPad T40 notebook s are a new benchmark of computing performance, battery life and mobility. Its unique feature is that one can work unplugged longer by combining the ThinkPad T40 high-capacity battery with the optional ThinkPad Ultrabay Slim Li polymer battery for all-day computing for up to 9.5 hours. The system comes preloaded with Rapid Restore PC, another ThinkVantage Technology offering the power of a one-button recover and restore solution to save time and frustration. ThinkPad T40 notebook include the UltraConnect Antenna built into the cover. This can improve signal reception whether you choose models with integrated 11a/b Wi-Fi wireless, Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b or when used with compatible options on wireless-upgradeable models. ThinkPad T40 is one of the few ThinkPada €™s which offer an array of options like Intel’s new Pentium M processor in 1.3GHz, 1.5GHz, and 1.6GHz speeds; the new Intel 855PM chipset; anywhere from 256MB to a big 2GB of speedy 266MHz DDR SDRAM; either a 30GB, 4,200rpm hard drive or a 40GB, 5,400rpm drive; 32MB of dedicated video RAM attached to an ATI Mobility 7500 or Mobility 9000 graphics chip; a swappable DVD or DVD/CD-RW combo drive; and a choice of batteries. The ThinkPad T40 also offers a dual-band, 802.11a/b antenna; an excellent keyboard; and wafer-thin swappable modules. The unique Embedded Security Subsystem, a ThinkVantage Technology, is available on select models. IBM T40 hardware and software solution can help safeguard data with encryption to virtually lock private information. The only display choice is 14.1 inches, but it comes in two native resolutions: the cheaper 1,024×768 or 1,400×1,050, which captures fine graphics detail but makes text extremely small. ThinkPad T40 laptop features a fairly standard selection of ports and slots including two Type II PC Card slots; headphone and microphone jacks; 56Kbps modem and 10/100/1000 Ethernet; S-Video out; and two USB 2.0 ports, VGA port and a swappable media bay along with an IrDA port and two hollow-sounding speakers.

Step 2 - Install Your Driver
After you download your new driver, then you have to install it. To install a driver in Windows, you will need to use a built-in utility called Device Manager. It allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.
How to Open Device Manager
In Windows 8.1 & Windows 10, right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager
In Windows 8, swipe up from the bottom, or right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose 'All Apps' -> swipe or scroll right and choose 'Control Panel' (under Windows System section) -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager
In Windows 7, click Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager
In Windows Vista, click Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Device Manager
In Windows XP, click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager button
How to Install drivers using Device Manager
Locate the device and model that is having the issue and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
Select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button and follow the instructions.
