Hi Deenmark,
When a device is connected to a new port for the first time the device driver is retrieved from the system and then installed. It may not make a whole lot of sense but it does occur. However, this should really be a 'behind the scenes' process, and you should not see multiple entries when you go to Control Panel > Printers
I write batch files which download and install the driver, create an IP port, and connect the driver. Vbs -a -r 'HPCLP5520' -h 111.111.111.111 -o raw. I would suggest that you run Printer Troubleshooter:
Open the Printer troubleshooter by clicking the Start, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Use a printer.

While in 'Devices and Printers' have you tried right clicking on the invalid entries and selecting 'Remove device'? If you remove only the invalid entries and then reboot, the computer should reset itself to recognize only the printer marked as default.
Also, you can try right clicking on the default printer, select 'Printer properties' (not 'properties), and you will see a box open up with a bunch of tabs that will let you set virtually all printer routine functions. In the tab marked 'ports' are sure that only the desired printer has a checkmark next to it.
If all else fails, then remove all of the printers showing in 'Printer and drivers'. Shut down the computer, disconnect the printer from the computer and reboot. Virtually every HP printer I have installed requires that the printer driver software be installed while the printer is disconnected from the computer. After the software install has been completed, shut down the computer, reconnect the printer, turn it on and boot up. At that point a message should pop up regarding 'new hardware being found' and the printer being made ready to use.
